OCTOBER 2004
hey
everybody. curtis the guitarist here. we finally have a website
up and running. we're pretty busy this month. the first week we
learned 24 ramones songs for a local cover night thing called
THE BIG COVER-UP #2. it went lousy. technical problems combined
with just barely not enough time to practice (if only we had another
day). people seemed to have fun, though. we recorded it and maybe
a couple songs that don't sound like shit might appear on this
website in the next couple of months, but i haven't even reviewed
that tape yet, so don't hold your breath.
the next day
we played out at skatopia's big BACKWOODS BASH X. for those that
don't know, skatopia is this big skater's retreat/skatepark in
meigs county near rutland (home of the rutles), that has annual
parties in the fall and the spring. the last time we played this
place it was crazy. zach basically got the shit beaten out of
him (in a good way) by about six skaters with a broom who would
then, after beating on zach, give him the broom so that he could
in turn beat on them. zach recieved probably the most cigarette
burns that night than any one night, but only he would know for
sure. when we were done playing our set, they told us to play more.
we played the other songs we knew, then they wanted us to play
more. so we played our set over again. we played for a couple
hours. at one point, zach hung out of a window that was three
stories up. fun fun fun. anyway, this last time wasn't nearly
as fun. we basically just played and hightailed it up to columbus
to the bourbon street cafe to play a show with grafton and the
cheater slicks. we played first and then got drunk. i'm pretty
sure the other bands played too.
the next week
we played at the union with our good friends boxcar satan from
san antone, texas and the heroes of history from cbus on wednesday.
not much to report; boxcar sounded awesome. rub sanford's belly
for me if you see him.
on friday we
played at the blackeye in cleveland. this show was our friend
and photographer keith marlowe's moving away to manhattan party.
we played first and tore shit up. zach cut his finger and bled
all over the place. he also got dragged around on the floor and
was a dirty, dirty motherfucker by the end of the show. we were
follwed by ruoz from cleveland. i had not seen these guys before,
but they were amazing. steve mehlman from pere ubu and rocket
from the tombs is thier drummer, and really kicks it out a little
more than in his dayjobs. kinda like drive like jehu. i'm gonna
try to get them down to athens sometime soon. after that the functional
blackouts of criminal i.q. records outta chicago played an especially
frenzied set. they just lost their singer, but are going on without
him. i said hi to buddy from this moment in black history. great
guy, that buddy.
speaking of
criminal i.q. records, there's a rumor going on that they wanna
sign us. that means that "the madness ends here" could finally
see the light of day as a real cd, with distro. right now we are
putting the final touches on the master of said album, and in
the end it will proablly sound shit pants inducing good. hopefully.
we really have no idea what we're doing.
wrapping up,
this week we're going the big apple to play the fucking cmj confrence
with the manhandlers, the stalkers, manaconda, and bang! bang!
so if you are in nyc, go to the show. and then at the end of the
month we're gonna be playing with the heroine sheiks and then
later that week with this moment in black history (both shows
at the union). and we're also gonna be going up to detroit sometime
soon to play a show and record some 4-track demos. anyway, this
has gone on long enough. i'll see everybody later. i'm sick. time
to go to bed. bye.
